Spent is a serious game made for the Urban Ministry of Durham, that want to teach about homeless people and the stuff the Ministry does. In the game you ran out of money and have to get through it, without getting homeless or loosing all your cash. This flash-game takes the approach of an interactive text-adventure, where you are bound to make choices all the time. Although the clean style and the interesting idea, the game itself unfortunately feels a little bit too serious in my eyes. All choices you make in the game, can be reflected too easily through the eyes of “not spending to much money“. On the other hand, this game tells a story about living at the border, so why not have a try? Somehow a counterpart could be Queue, that is about standing in an social welfare waiting line. Cool ideas for games I guess, but please put a little more fun into it! (via)

This toy brings everything on a new level: social interaction, music instruments, composition, sound games… In the end this is a real social game. (via Althausen, thx!)

Flee is a neat game for Android-devices, that I want to call the “most complete LCD-handheld emulating game” that probably ever was. You use the touch-display to control a LCD-Handheld game. There is almost nothing to report about the gameplay itself, if you are familiar with this kind of games. But something to highlight is the focus on details, that try to mimic the “hardware-feeling” as much as possible. Like the video above shows, they even simulated dirt on the “plastic case”, that you can wipe and clean again, if it gets too dirty. Really refreshing point-of-view on software-handheld gaming! Also have a look at the website of the creators Frugal Games.

Oozy and the Tower of Wulu is a nice casual game, that throws a couple of game-mechanics into a jar, to make them a cool mix of fun, arcade and puzzle. Some elements remembers on Sokoban, other on arcade-classics from the 1,5 birds-eye perspective.

The aim of the game is, to explode energy-bubble with slime. To do so, you have to first throw worm-slime. Not on all fields it’ll explode. That’s why you will have to build longer slime-explode ways with stronger energy sometimes, otherwise the energy-bubbles won’t burst. Best try a round, then do the tutorial level. Cool and convincing game, like it!

Neco Touch (authors webpage) is a tiny flash(punk) game, that would make up a really great party-game – if it would be a little be more difficult! In order to meet the cute kitten, you have to steer a moving cross to a color-matching circle. Really basic gameplay, and very fun. Well rounded by the japan-like pixelartwork and the light jazz music. “If your points reach a million you win, if they reach zero you lose.” Unfortunately the score-system isn’t very balanced, so it takes ages to even win or loose a single round! Some minor tweaks would make this really a great game!

PS: This game was inspired by the “games by artworks” compo!

frogatto-jump-n-run

Jeez, jump and run-lovers have a really good reason to cheer up: Frogatto is a free platformer with astounding fresh and detailed pixelart, solid gameplay, that is available for all operating systems! That are good news, especially for Mac OS X and Linux-users, because there is a decent lack of free indiegames with that flavour. The sourcecode of the game is open-source (the code, not the artworks!), only iPod/iPhone users have to pay five dollar for the game. The developers also accept donations. I would say: just have a download! It is absolutely worth it!

tweet-trump-01

Tweet Trumps is a game, that some of the web 2.0-enthusiasts implicit play for years in the social networks: who got the most followers, the best stats, the most postings etc. Finally Tom Scott and Dom Hodgson came up with a game, where you can play officially with Twitter-stats. Everyone knows trump from the childhood days. You hold your card and have to overbeat your opponent by picking a stat, that is guaranteed better than you opponents one (you surely not know). A little fun game, not too deep, but with millions of variants, by picking special themes for the game, like cars, buildings, tv-series, etc.. Twitter Trump is the most dynamic and interactive version of this game.

Just start entering a nickname of your choice, wait some seconds and try to beat your opponents cards with followers, word-length or tweets-per-day. The cards are generated by friends of the twitter-account you selected first. Definitely worth a try. Game of the week, i want to call it.
