Whoohoo! This game is really fun! The subject of Dino Run game is easy. You play a young dinosaur, while the world is going to die. Your mission is simple: run as fast as you can, just to escape the doomsday.

The graphics are very fresh and pixely in style. The gameplay is somewhere between games like moon-patrol or motorcross maniacs, so expect something far away from the obvious, that is still much of fun playing! Once again a really good work from Pixel Jam.

Ok, this is not 8- or 16-bit. At least it’s 2-dimensional.

I have found the spritestitch-blog and the spritestitch-forum, that brings good pixelized retrorism into analogue playgrounds.

It’s a place on the web dedicated to the art of stitching, knitting and crafting the 8- and 16-bit era of sprites in computing games. Make the world a better place, by stitching your favorite characters. Girls, now you have a reason for playing this good old games with your boys. And boys… time to get into the art of stitching and 2d-art again. At least to sit by tea and cake, craft and listen to the wisdom of the elderly. One last question remains… what is so cool about retro-characters? Well… I can’t tell you exactly, but this week some PacMan made my day.

A really good idea had Logan Williams. He made a “tangible audio sequencer” using a cam, paper and coins. The sequencer module in the computer scans the paper with the webcam and detects objects on the paper (in this case the coins). They are interpreted as data, that you normally put into a digital sequencer using the mouse.

A dead simple idea, why nobody else did something like that before?

Update: Logan gave me the URL of his official website, and he seems to like it complicated and unusual. His portfolio is available under http://47Ω.com. And if this doesn’t not work, just try http://xn--47-fcc.com.

Clément aka Pikilipita wrote me a mail about his new VJ software. Last time we had a feature about Pikilipita VJ for the DS, now he finished PS24VJ (read: Playstation 2 for Video Jockey). He took somehow an inspiration of the Digital Tools header-graphic to illustrate some of his characters. Call it remix, call it sampling or call it homage, but I am pleased, that Clement used some screenie of the Digital Tools header to make and support his own work of art. And just because he is like me into colors, homebrew and stuff like that, I feel very comfortable about this. Check out his work!

PS24VJ is a VJ software running on the Sony Playstation 2 video game system which features most classic VJ softwares options. Leave your laptop home and just take your PS2 with you when going to perform a gig! Invite a VJ to join you on for a jam: PS24VJ can be controlled by two VJ simultaneously!

You will need a Playstation 2, a PC with some recent Windows OS and Quicktime 7.5, Swap Magic 2.6 and DVD, as well as a USB memory stick. Your graphic and video files will then be converted into a format with the funny name “Kouky video format“, he developed himself.

He also setup an interesting kind of “business model” for his homebrewed application. You can get a copy of the software if you donate any amount of money. It can be less, but it can also be more – you choose! He told me, that donations so far were between 30 and 100 Euros so far. This is a somehow pleasing way, transforming the good old idea of shareware into the present. Why not spending Clément some bucks for his coffee and the effort he made, while you are adding some aesthetic value to your VJ sets and most of all your hanging around at home for pleasure?

I just discovered the beautiful colorful worlds from Utada Hikaru on YouTube. The music is lovely and hard at the same time, very different and mixes various style of pop-music together. But the incredibly best feature are the videoclips. They are so unique, fantastic and real / unreal that this is almost a “must seen” for everyone.

The best demoscene party at summerdays and my personal highlight of the year is the Evoke in Cologne. Finally they finished the invitation-demo / video for 2008. As always feel free to come around, be part of the party and celebrate in lovely Cologne – Ehrenfeld. The dancefloor event Evoke Tracks this year has also a very interesting lineup.

via Phlow, thx!
