It’s summer right? Time to get yourself comfortable with the Enviro-Bear. In the game you play a bear, driving a car. Your mission is to eat as much food as possible, before time’s up and you go for a hibernation. Look at the gameplay-video to leave every doubt at behind.
Realistic and awesome, isn’t it? The game was released as “Enviro-Bear 2010″ for the iPhone (cost 0.99 cent, App Store Link), but also an older PC-Version Enviro-Bear 2000 is available. (via)
Heavy Weapons is a well balanced and excessive shooter-game, with a touch of demoscener-style. In this browsergame you have to shoot a certain amount of enemies in every of the 60 levels to unlock and move forward into the next level. In a shop you can equip your ship with lots of different weapon-systems. And this is where most of the fun comes in. There are lots of different weapons some big, some small, some clever, always with shooting-pleasure guaranteed.
The graphics and the sounds in this game have a decent quality, making this game an unique experience. In some levels I felt like thrown into a sea of good old level-wonderlands I met on the Amiga 500. Game recommodation of the week! Play Heavy Weapons.

A screener from the probably very first incarnation of Tetris.
You are almost 25 years now, but still such a beauty. As you turn 25 on the 6th June 2009 (Reuters says this is the possible official date), we do not want to talk about what million selling beast you are still today, like all the other media do. No, we want you to dig everything possible out of your mystic and gameplay specialities. Check this post for all about tetris gameplay.
Alexey Pajitnov almost made no bucks with Tetris itself, because it was a little bit of Sovjet vs. the rest of the world thing, due problems with licencing and people acting strange. But Alexey also said, that he made some other games as well at that time in 1984. At least he looks happy, and making games is not only about bucks, right?
25 Years later…
…thousands of Tetris-copies and -variants were made. And some of them are real jewels. I most recently found a one- or two-player variant called Inverted. You drop blocks from top and bottom and have to keep the “colors” consistent. It’s fresh and highly recommended!
Experimental storytelling Sunday! Air Pirates is a game by Cactus, he made with his studio Lo-Fi Minds for e4. It is flash and it will be released next month. The trailer indeed convices by blocky and dirty style, ill colored pixels and music from The Death Set.

A short, but interesting platformer experiment is “Sad Torino Girly Harry” from beef and cow. It was made for the “Poppenkast 3 hours astronaut” competition. Aim was to make a space-game in 3 hours and mention the cast. The game is as confusing as its name – experimental in nature and really worth 3 minutes of playing fun! Get the game here.

Torley made a great review on an old game for the Mac called Cosmic Osmo. Although this game is from 1989 and only features black, white and some grayscale colors, it looks outstanding interesting. The game is a point and click adventure, and got some pretty nice humor. The soundeffects are great as well. You best simply take a look at the video-review from Torley.
Fathom is an absolutely lovely made free flash game, ready to play in your browser. The game is a little bit diffrent from others – read here if you get stuck. It’s made by Adam “Atomic” Saltsman and Danny “B” Baranowsky. They also teamed up at the game Gravity Hook for example.
At least interesting is, that the game took only 10 days to develop, utilizing a self-made flash-framework for 2D-games, called Flixel. It should have some not-so-obvious algorithmic wonders behind the curtain (as you obviously can experience at Fathom) and should see the first public release soon!
